Our producer: Domaine Ramonet

At the end of the 1920s, Pierre Ramonet came to Chassagne with nothing more than a simple backpack to make wine.

At first he bought the grapes from local farmers, but as early as 1934 he was able to buy his first piece of land in the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru vineyard "Les Ruchottes". Over the years he expanded his estate and finally in 1978 bought the showpiece - a small plot of the world famous Le Montrachet vineyard (and he even paid cash!).

The winery currently has 17 hectares of prime vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, including the Grand Crus Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet (0.56 Ha), Bâtard-Montrachet (0.45 Ha), Chevalier-Montrachet and Le Montrachet (0.26 Ha) as well several 1er Crus (total 8). Most of the vineyards have been planted with Chardonnay vines, but some of the plots also contain Pinot Noir vines, notably the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Crus "Clos de la Boudriotte", "Clos Saint Jean" and "Morgeot".

The Ramonet winery is now run by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet. They are proud of their old vines and comparatively low yields and mature their top wines after traditional fermentation in barrels made of up to 70% new oak. Their most important wine is undoubtedly the Montrachet Grand Cru, considered one of the best representatives of this exquisite vineyard. The best vintages of this wine have an aging potential of more than 50 years!
