The vinification takes place for 24 months in new French barriques.
It all started on a balmy summer night in 2001, when five friends Markus Altenburger, Florian Gayer, Gerhard Kracher, Erich Scheibelhofer and Christian Tschida met for a hedonistic wine tasting. They intensively tasted and discussed, and it is no longer exactly to say whether it was the Burgenland full moon or the countless Magnum bottles, - in that night the idea for a new crazy wine, a wine with an unprecedented Style and strength was born, it was to be the birth of an Austrian cult wine. His name: batonnage - a derivation of the oenological expression for the stiring the lees in oak barrels, in a figurative sense: the whirl up the wine world. In 2001, for the first time, was then married the varieties Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon from Leithaberg in Jois and Merlot from the best plots in Andau. Only the best grapes are suitable for the Batonnage. The result after 24 months maturation in new French oak barrels exceeded even the wildest expectations. Just two barrique barrels of this incredible wine were produced.
Even if a larger amount would be possible in strong years, each vintage is limited to a maximum of 12 oak barrels.
Garage wine with 15.5% alcohol from super ripe, hand-picked grapes from the best single vineyards of Rust, Jois and Andau.
