Producers: Château Clos Fourtet
Château Clos Fourtet is a first Grand Cru classé in St-Emilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux. The wine-growing area stretches over 20 hectares, 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet franc, on an ideal hillside in St-Emilion. The story goes that the name Clos Fourtet comes from "Camp Fourtet", a medieval-guarded place in defense of the city of St-Emilion. Fortunately, times have changed ... The property belonged to the Ginestet family until 1948, when it relinquished it to François Lurton in exchange for its stake in Château Margaux, and subsequently to Pierre Lurton. Finally, in 2001, the Cuvelier family acquired Clos Fourtet (since then she has also acquired Château Poujeaux in Moulis). The dynamic Matthieu Cuvelier takes care of the property. He has hired the oenologist Stéphane Derenencourt, and the quality of Clos Fourtet has grown dramatically within a few years. The wines are strong and modern.
