Producers: Comtes von Neipperg (Mondotte)
La Mondotte is one of the pieces of art presented by the gifted Stephan von Neipperg. The 4 hectares of La Mondotte are planted to 3/4 with Merlot and a quarter with Cabernet Franc, the vines are on average 35 years old.
The winery is located at the gates of the city of Saint-Émilion (Bordeaux) in the same area. It dates from the early 19th century. In 1971 it was taken over together with the Château Canon La Gaffelière of the Baden-Württemberg noble family Count Neipperg. Since 1985, Count Stephan von Neipperg is responsible. Originally, it was planned to incorporate the wine of La Mondotte in the Canon La Gaffelière. However, this would have cost the classification as "Grand Cru Classé" in the second place.
Until the year 1995, the wine was vinified under the name "Château La Mondotte" on Château Canon-La-Gaffelière. Then large investments were made to meet the requirement of a possible classification. Since the year 1996, the wine now produced in its own winery is called "La Mondotte". In order to avoid confusion, the bottle, label and wooden box were newly created. In 2012, the company was classified as "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" (so he managed this jump directly without previous usual Grand Cru Classé classification).
