Always on the more immediate side of the Mascarello family Barolo spectrum the 2016 Barolo Villero is really quite spectacular. This wine is coming together with impressive intensity and seamless integration showing equal parts fruit spice and earthy notes of crushed stone. Those fruit tones are especially rich and generous with cherry liqueur wild plum and pressed rose petal. The wine offers a level of thrilling exuberance and depth that sums up the 2016 vintage in a nutshell.
The grapes for the Barolo Monprivato come from a southwest-facing single vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. Traditional maceration for 20 to 25 days in stainless steel tanks. Subsequent maturation for 38 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Bottling takes place 4 years after the harvest.
The history of the Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio winery has ancient origins: first as conductors of the Cascina Manescotto in La Morra and then on its own from 1881, thanks to Giuseppe Mascarello who bought a land in the prestigious region Pian della Polvere in Monforte d'Alba district. In 1904, his son Maurizio bought a property in the Monprivato area, in Castiglione Falletto district, where he moved the company’s headquarters. In addition to Barolo, he began to produce Dolcetto and Barbera, also buying grapes by some selected winemakers in the area. After the death of Maurizio in 1923, his son Giusepe carried on the company with the help of his brother Natale and his sisters, but a few years later they were forced to divide their streets. Maurizio Mascarello gradually managed to increase the production of Barolo without interfering with quality, thanks to the use of efficient cultivation and winemaking techniques. Starting from 1967, Mauro Mascarello, son of Maurizio, led the winery with the same philosophy to obtain perfect grapes to obtain excellent wines, in the full respect of the territory and the environment.
