Deep purple, strong roasted aromas, oriental spices and some mint penetrate the nose. On the palate, the wine is extremely concentrated and complex, especially pepper and dark cherry. Nice finale and lingering finish.

Vinification / aging

Once The grapes have been carefully selected by hand, are placed in flat wooden trays and left to dry for 90 days in our special “fruttaio” (drying barn) where humidity and temperature are strictly controlled. After the grape crushing starts a cold maceration of 5 days. The alchoolic fermentation is very slow and runs for 30 days. The malolactic fermentation takes place in 20 hectolitres french oak barrels in our cellars which lie deep in the rock below our house. The ageing process continues for 30 months in wood and a further 12 months in the bottle.

History

The story of the Massimago estate began in 2003 when young agronomist and entrepreneur Camilla Rossi Chauvenet started her own project at the Massimago winery, which has been owned by her family since 1883. The property is located in Mezzane di Sotto, one of the wildest and most unique valleys of Valpolicella. On an area of ??14 hectares Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella vines are cultivated, always taking into account and in harmony with nature. Classic Valpolicella wines such as Amarone, Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso and Valpolicella DOC are produced. With lots of energy, creative ideas and pep, Camilla manages to bring new life and a lot of character to these classics. The product line, named after nobles (Marchesa and Conte) stands out with funny and unconventional labels and makes the Valpolicellas also attractive to a younger generation. Exceptional and extremely high-quality wines - an absolute insider tip from the Valpolicella!

Terroir

The vines grow at an altitude of 100 to 350 m above sea level. Limestone, marl and clay are the predominant types of soil.
