Roch came from the Burgundian "wine nobility" of the Leroy family and was co-owner of the most famous wine domaine in the world, the "Domaine Romanée Conti". As an engineer, he spent many years as a youth with his father (a building contractor) in Egypt, a fond memory that found its way into his idiosyncratic labels. The early death of his brother then made him become a winemaker rather involuntarily. But then also with skin and hair! He proceeded exactly as he did on the DRC in his own tiny vineyard in Nuits Saint Georges: biodynamics in a purist form. Unlike at the varying Domaine Romanée Conti, there is never any destemming here! Everything is bottled unfiltered and almost unsulphured - pure nature.

Terroir

His former colleague, Yannick Champ, who is now at the helm of Domaine Prieuré Roch, almost surpasses him in meticulousness. Each vine is marked as to its result, if a vine shows more than one year of rot, not only are all grapes from that plant foregone, it is also eliminated and replanted. The assumption here is that completely healthy plants do not show rot. The wines from the Prieuré Roch are a drinking experience all of their own, unbelievably powerful and almost animalistic expressions of the terroir and the fruit, no soft Burgundy, absolutely no concessions to the zeitgeist or the international wine tasters and critics, but a challenge of purist nature for real connoisseurs. Of course, the climate change has been very favourable to this winery in particular; since 2008, all harvests have been harvested very ripe. The sweetness and fruit have increased significantly since 2008, the green tannins of the stems and the rape vegetation have given way to the desired ripe freshness and racy tannins from stems and stems. Terroir, fruit, sweetness, freshness, race and spice are in a very interesting exchange - certainly among the most interesting wines of Burgundy.
